Dlamini-Zuma sees education as key to Africa's growth

Newly elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says good education and skills must be provided to the continent's children. Dlamini-Zuma says the education of young people will ensure Africa's economic growth.  She was speaking at a gala dinner held in her honour in Durban by the eThekwini Metro last night.
"This is a big opportunity for us provided we go to school and give our kids good education, we skill and train them. And of course we will come back and drive our economy. Other countries are relying on migrant labour from other countries. We can drive our own economy with our own people," says Dlamini-Zuma.

She added that the continental body must mobilse Africans in the diaspora to return and contribute to the development of the continent. She added: "They need not come back to their original countries. If a South African skill can be utilised better in Nigeria, let them go there. If a Nigerian skill can be utilised better here let them come here.  They are out there developing other people's economies. So lets see if our diaspora can come back to us."

A colourful parade was held in Durban to honour the newly appointed AU commission chairperson yesterday. The Durban CBD was alive with music and dance. From the ANC Women's League to nurses, scores of people came to honour and bid her farewell.
