‘A learned nation is a growing nation’, education is a fundamental
key to building a strong and objective society. The sustainability of our
nation lies upon the hand of the up coming generation, that’s why in every
given opportunity each and every individual within our society has to
contribute towards making it possible. Even though those born in the 40s didn’t
have the opportunity to follow their dreams to the extreme, today’s generation
have been given those opportunities which still requires society to show them
the way.
“Education is
the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” Nelson
Mandela.
“The world is a
book and those who do not travel read only one page” Augustine of Hippo.
The 2013, 2nd
Annual Career Expo held at Sekhukhune FET College in CN Phatudi Campus on the
16th and 17th of May 2013, was hosted by JB Marks Education Trust fund in
partnership with SABC Education, the National Youth Skills Development
Programme, Sekhukhune FET College and the Tubatsi Municipality, Sekhukhune
Circuit District of Department of Education.
There were twenty-two exhibitors among them, to name a
few were, SABC Education, SAA Technical, JB Marks and National Lottery. Among
those were the FET colleges such as Sekhukhune FET College, Lephalale FET College,
banks and various SETAs such as Services Seta and ETDP Seta. Not forgetting Monash
University and the CTI education group.
Over the two days the venue was filled with joyous
laughter and glittering eyes of learners from the community Sekhukhune and
their surrounding areas. The venue Sparkled as the learners received
information about the different available careers. For the two days
seven-thousand learners attended the event accompanied by their educators,
parents and other representatives from the community. The learners were entertained by the likes of Ashifa
Shaba, and the Marimba band as they were shown the innovative parts of
different careers. The MEC of
Limpopo, Mr. Masemola was the speaker on the second day, talking about the
importance of education.
As the learners walked from stall to stall, enquiring about information on the careers
they want to follow after matric, it was amazing to realise that with so much
information provided, some learners seemed to be more clueless of what they
want ‘after-school’. SABC education gave learners the ‘South African Career Guides’ and the ‘Teenager be Wise’ books. These were some of the books which will
educate growing young minds and empower them for a better tomorrow.
With this career exhibition SABC
Education hope to empower and motivate learners in making better choices in
future.
