Disability – Differently abled but not defeated - Hola hamonate SABC2, Tuesday 20th November

The population of disabled elderly is growing rapidly. The elderly suffer functional disability due to arthritis, strokes, diabetes, coronary artery disease, cancer, or cognitive impairment.  This week we look at the impact disability has on the quality of life for the elderly and how they cope. Jan Mtsweni tells of a disease affecting the elderly which has crippled him and the emotional scars that come with it. Social worker Lea-Barnard Smith shares her experience of working with elderly people who have disabilities.  Andre Manders shows how one can have a disability and still age gracefully.
Hola hamonate is a space where the elderly share their challenges, triumphs and wisdom. The show is a platform for conversation where the elderly unpack current issues at their own pace and in their own style. Anthony Wilson and Clementine Mosimane are presenters of Hola hamonate.
