Shoes are not just great fashion accessories, they are complex pieces of
apparel that can certainly enhance a fashion statement, but they equally enhance
sporting performances or assist in correcting foot problems.
No matter the
reason for purchasing a pair of shoes, one fact remains key; everyday in every
city and town around the world, people put on a pair before they leave their
homes.
Shoemaking may have started off by wrapping our feet in leaves or leather but
today shoe manufacturing makes a significant contribution to the clothing,
textile, footwear and leather sector globally.
Whether we wear them for fashion
or to score the winning goal, we all own shoes that need to suite our lifestyles
and our personal preferences.
Patternmakers take the design and transfer it to the last (anvil type) piece
of equipment which produces the parts that are assembled to make the shoe.
Cutters use knives or cutting machines to produce the materials used in making
the upper part of the shoe. Sole cutters are skilled in using sharp instruments
or machines to shape and make the soles. Pullovers handle the first stage of
attaching the uppers to the soles and a laster attaches the sole to the upper
using a lasting machine.
The sole stitcher makes the final stitching along the
lasting join and the edge trimmer tidies up the final product removing any loose
edges resulting in an attractive and smoothly finished shoe.
