Episode 15 – 7 May 2011 - Joe Manciya
Joe Manciya, better known as the man with a plan in Ivory Park grew up in a household where no child ever went further than their senior certificate. He broke the record and matriculated with exemption in maths and science. Teaching was his calling from early years, where he facilitated small peer to peer study groups, collecting money to buy candles and use the blackboard and classroom at night. Today Joe Manciya is the coordinator of the IkamvaYouth, which is a township-based volunteer-driven project achieving remarkable results. IkamvaYouth equips learners from disadvantaged communities with skills and resources to access tertiary education and/or employment opportunities once they matriculate.
