Electoral Commission and SABC Education promote 2011 Municipal Elections

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and SABC Education have completed their second voter education roadshow. In March they were in Mpumalanga, Driefontein and spent Tuesday 12th April 2011 in the Free State in Thaba Nchu. The IEC and SABC Education have an ongoing partnership to share voter education information with communities.

The visit to Thaba Nchu, the second road show to encourage participation in the 2011 Municipal Elections featured Gangs Of Instrumental who rocked the crowd of over 1500 and urged them to make their mark on 18th May 2011 at the Local Government Elections. “In preparation for the 2011 Municipal Elections, we are promoting participation and creating interest among the public. At the road shows we have mock voting stations where people can interact and receive information about the elections. We explain why every vote is important, the zipzip machine, the readiness of IEC to manage the elections and how to make your mark” says Surekha Singh commissioning editor at SABC Education’s Public Information and Social Development unit. The next voter education road show is (18th April) in Makgobistad in Ratlou Municipality North West. Winnie Khumalo and local traditional dancers will provide entertainment.
