Durbanites Gear Up For The Annual Baba Indaba and Kids Indaba!

The SABC Education Baba Indaba is bringing inspired parenting to Durban again, this time it will be bigger, better and more engaging than ever. An added bonus for visitors is that the show, which normally runs for three days, will run over four days, taking advantage of the public holiday on Monday 22 March. The event is being held from 19 to 22 March 2010 at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

After five years, the SABC Education Baba Indaba is still bursting at the seams with inspirational ideas, information from expert exhibitors, great bargains and loads of fun for the family. There are many prizes up for grabs; one lucky attendee will win a high tea at the newly revamped Oyster Box Hotel. The winner could get together with a group of friends for an upmarket, relaxing day sipping tea and feasting on cakes and pastries, perfect for a baby shower!

SABC Education Baba Indaba is not just about babies; toddlers will love the Muppets from Takalani Sesame who perform daily shows on stage, at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. They also get to meet and play with the Muppets, learning numeracy, literacy and life-skills knowledge in the process. You’ll have a unique opportunity to have your photo taken with the Muppets on stage in conjunction with Sanlam.

Exciting news for parents is that the launch of the Kids Indaba concept will be taking place concurrently with the SABC Education Baba Indaba. This brand new concept is a first in Africa, catering for 6 – 12 year old children.

At Kids Indaba there will be jumping castles; art classes; a soccer zone; walk on water balls; Spur and My School, ‘Show Me your Moves’ competition! The ReadRight initiative in conjunction with The Sunday Times is a charity project to raise funds for underprivileged youth and will offer an area with books on sale as well as story-telling in a comfy environment. Bayete Zulu is giving away an amazing holiday for a family of four worth R22 000 but you must be there to stand a chance to win this incredible prize!

Doors open from 09h30 until 17h00 each day and entry to Baba Indaba is R45.00 at the door for adults, kids below five gain free entrance. Decorex is running concurrently at the ICC and entry to the SABC Education Baba Indaba and Kids Indaba will entitle you to R10 off your ticket for Decorex and vice versa.

Entry to the Kids Indaba area will be R15 per child and includes a free gift. Children are welcome to play in this area for as long as they wish.

For both events, grandparents are admitted free on Friday. Tickets can also be purchased online. When you purchase your tickets, you don’t just get an affordable entry to a fantastic expo, you also get to make a difference: The Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust will receive 5% of the income from the ticket sales.

About Kids Indaba
For the first time in South Africa an exhibition will focus on the 6-12 year old children. The expo will include educational exhibits, entertainment, fashion, sporting and physical activities, healthy living and toys, making it a really great day out for primary school children that will be great fun, safe and developmental. The Kids Indaba brand is designed to appeal to mothers as well as the children themselves. Kids should find the brand fun and ‘cool’ while parents should see the entertainment and developmental value.

The expo will be held in Durban, Pretoria, Cape Town, Soweto and Sandton. Running in tandem with the already popular Baba Indaba it will cater for the needs and aspirations of the children in this age group and their parents.
