Paulette Tshiredo, SABC Education’s Head of the Formal Education Unit was tragically taken from us in what appears to be a domestic violence disaster on the eve of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
At the young age of 43 Paulette leaves behind her beloved children Paul, Mashudu and Tshifhiwa aged 17, 12 and 11 respectively. Paulette’s children were her pride and joy; when she spoke about her children, which was often her eyes, sparkled with happiness.
Paulette joined the SABC in August 1995 as a current affairs presenter / journalist, stationed in Polokwane at the then Radio Tsonga. She moved to SABC Education at inception in 1996 as a producer based in Auckland Park. Her hard work soon earned her the position of project manager. Paulette was dedicated to her work and consistently promoted education for all South Africans. Paulette was Head of Formal Education when she met her untimely death.
Colleagues are shocked at the loss of Paulette’s dignified and dynamic presence. She always stood her ground and managed to express her concerns with articulation that surprised most on many occasions.
Simon Molaudzi, SABC Education’s General Manager says “the passing on of Paulette is a big set back and a great loss to SABC Education, and SABC as a corporation largely. As a department, we will certainly miss her assertive nature and approach, her commitment and passion to educational projects, which was unequalled. She leaves a huge legacy at SABC Education, amongst others the promotion of marginalised languages in education content, which went a long way in ensuring that SABC meets with the language mandate as regulated. She was a vital cog in the SABC Education wheel. We will miss her badly”.
Paulette will be missed by all of us for various reasons. She often gave sound advice to younger colleagues in need of guidance. Her very dry sense of humour created unexpected laughter in the corridors. Paulette’s determination made her appear straight laced and stern on the outside, but on the inside once you knew her, was an open, fair, kind loving daughter, mother, sister, friend and colleague. We pray for you and your loved ones, rest in peace, dearest Paulette.

When I hear news of this sudden departure of our friend and colleague -Paulette Tshiredo, what comes to mind was to mourn her death with dignity even though I have known her for a short period since joining SABC Education. I now will dedicate my life to work towards achieving peace and education for all in South Africa and beyond. May your soul rest in peace dearest Paulette...!
Hey Pauli, I can hear you saying "did I really make such an impression?" Oh yes you did!
Paulette, I will always love you, you were like a big sister to me. I took all your advice and will keep them in my heart forever. At some point we actually joked about this, not knowing it will eventually happen.
Rest in Peace 'sister P"
with love from "sister T"
“On the death of a friend, we should consider that the fates through confidence have devolved on us the task of a double living, that we have henceforth to fulfill the promise of our friend’s life also, in our own to the world” Henry David Thoreau
It is with great sadness that I heard of the sudden passing of our colleague and friend, Paulette Tshiredo. At this trying time, let us remember her fondly, as the strong and feisty woman that we all knew her to be and let us give Grace and Gratitude for her love, her life and deep service to Africa. Let us mourn her passing but also give thanks for her life and for the time that we spent with her. Her death is tragic and painful for all of us however we need to surrender and allow her soul to rest in peace. Sympathies are extended to her family, friends and to her children who will surely miss their mother for all the days of their lives. Blessings to her beloved children and may they have hope, courage and faith to remember their mother and all that she taught them.
Goodbyes are not forever.
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean I'll miss you
Until we meet again!
