28 year old Thabo from Cape Town has been accepted at the Art Center College of Design in California, with a full scholarship and a financial award from Toyota to study automotive design. Thabo’s scholarship begins with the Spring 2010 term.
“This scholarship is granted to Thabo because of the potential demonstrated in his portfolio and previous academic record. It also signifies our belief in his potential to succeed and excel” said Allison Lee, Financial Aid Assistant Director of Art Center College of Design California.
The programme It’s For Life in which Thabo participated required three young people from totally different backgrounds go on a road trip in a campervan which served as their home. It’s For Life is total reality with no script where the participants face numerous challenges to find out more about themselves. Thabo was obsessed with drawing and designing, his dream was to become a draftsman.
Johan Neethling, Commissioning Editor at SABC Education is delighted for Thabo, he says “A scholarship is the greatest expression of confidence in Thabo’s future. We congratulate him and hope his 13 enduring weeks in It’s For Life helped towards his personal growth to move into the future to fulfil his dreams”.

I hope that Thabo will be able to gain knowledge and learning with this scholarship.
Congratulations! This guy was on the programme “It’s for life” and I can safely tell you that he deserves every bit of it. His drawings on It’s for life were amazing, and he has always wanted to study in the direction of “motor-designing”.
We (SABC Education)are so proud of Thabo for all his endevours. Thabo, please keep us updated.
