Talented South Africans and their Art on SABC2

Sinekghono, IsiNdebele for ‘Let’s Create’ is a series about art and creativity for children aged nine to twelve years. The series, aligned to the national school curriculum gives children an understanding of the theory of art and explains how the use of different elements form ‘art’.

Presenters, Pablo (a 3D animated character) and Given Mabena introduce us to some of South Africa’s talented artists, both visual and performance giving insight into the skill and hidden facts behind the different art forms.The series, scheduled for broadcast from 7 July 2009 on SABC2 every Wednesday at 11h00 for 26 weeks explains how art can be a form of consolation, functionality and expression.

Tshilidzi Davhana, commissioning editor at SABC Education explains “Sinekghono covers various topics, for example ‘Art as functionality’ looks at designing a house as an art, this art serves a purpose and a certain role.

‘Art as a business’ covers interesting paper, wire and other conventional forms of art that clearly show people making a living from their art.”The children take viewers through a specific form of art and give the artist’s interpretation, thoughts and emotions while creating their masterpieces. Each episode gives a taste of different art forms in small chunks of interesting information.

Zandile Nkonyeni SABC2’s publicity manager says “Sinekghono showcases South Africans feeling at home with their artistic talents; topics range from photography to dancing, flower arranging to graphic design and creative cooking to advertising.”
