TOMz: Reading

Philane Dlalda
TOMz goes into the knowledge filled world of reading to find out how digital technology is being used to preserve reading material, and then meet the Pavement Bookworm to see how reading has changed his life.
Reading has been around for millenniums; it has been a very important part of how the human civilisation receives information. To this day reading still plays a big part of how people become knowledgeable on the happenings of the past and present and the possibilities of the future. For these reasons, it is very important to not only be able to preserve reading material, but to make it even more accessible to people from all walks of life. Join the TOMz team as they visit the National Library of South Africa to see how they go about digitising all sorts of reading materials.

Reading is not only about receiving information but it is also a way for one to escape into an imaginary world. It is this escape that Philane Dlalda, The Pavement Bookworm, decided to go for rather than an escape through drugs. Find out from him how the love of reading has actually changed his life for the better and how he uses it to put smiles on the people on Mzansi’s roads.

TOMz continues to commemorate South African heroes. Do you know who wrote the South African novel, The Cry of Winnie Mandela? To find out more watch TOMz on Monday and Tuesday at 4pm only on SABC 1 Mzansi Fo Sho.
