A look at Nursing on iSpani

SABC1 Wednesday 3 October at 13h30

Nursing is the protection, promotion, optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.

Nursing careers offer a wide variety of roles and a broad scope of responsibility. There are many different types of nurses, and several different ways to obtain nursing careers.  Nurses work closely with physicians as an integral part of the patient health care team.

The doctor makes some key decisions about the diagnosis, treatment, and medication; it is the role of a nurse to administer care on an ongoing basis to ensure successful recuperation of the patient. Nurses may actually spend more face-to-face time with patients than doctors so they need to be particularly adept at interacting with patients, putting them at ease, and assisting them in their recovery, and overall well-being.

iSpani is a reality documentary that takes viewers into the world of work. Each week an aspiring careerist is exposed, in detail, to the inner workings of a specific career starting at the very bottom.

They are taken on a process of orientation and practical job shadowing, introduced to and supported by potential employers. In addition to performing specific tasks that build the foundation of a competent employee, iSpani candidates are coached by on-the-ground experts in the field, who share their experiences in developing their own careers with the candidates.
