Ratanang looking at Adoption

Adoption is the legal process by which the rights and responsibilities for a child are given up by one set of parents and taken on by another. Adoption is however much more than a legal process; it is also the creation of a family that involves deep human emotions and has the potential to create great happiness as well as great disappointment.

Before you decide that adoption is the right plan for you, much thinking and discussion should take place. You need to carefully consider every aspect of adoption and scrutinize your own feelings. We find out from parents when is the right time is to talk to adoptive children about their adoption.

We discuss the impact adoption has on the adopted child and the love of a parent to a child that is not biologically theirs. Ratanang, The Parenting Club is produced by Whatwewant for SABC Education for broadcast on SABC2. Watch Friday 27 April at 11h00 on SABC2, to find out more.
