Lerato Marabe in Skeem Saam coming soon to SABC1.

Newcomer Lerato Marabe in Skeem Saam coming soon to SABC1.

“Skeem Saam is going to be the best Sepedi drama ever! My role is ‘Pretty’, the little brat that Kwaito doesn’t want. The show is entertaining and educational, South African youth will learn about doing the right thing and to not allow peers to put pressure on their decisions.”

Lerato, born in Vosloorus attends Parkdene High. She lives with her mom and brother. She says her mom was very strict but has sweetened up a bit now. She describes herself as ‘talkative, hyperactive and playful’. She says “some times I would talk so much in class my teacher would send me out the room, but now I’ve changed.”

When Lerato was little she wanted to be a princess, then a teacher because her mom was a teacher, now she is confident she wants to be an actress. In her leisure time she likes to sing and dance with friends. She is a keen netball player and sometimes plays hockey.

Lerato listens to Yfm because “they are hip and happening, they play songs that the youth like. I like Hip Hop and R&B.” Her favourite movie star is Tom Cruise and she enjoys Medical Detectives, “they specialize in forensics and that’s what I want to study.”

Lerato is afraid of the dark. She doesn’t like her small hips and can’t wait for them to become big and round. Her keen sense of humour is evident when she says “I laugh a lot at silly jokes but mostly if I trip and nobody sees then I laugh at myself.”

Her message to the youth is “fight for what you want and study hard because education is your success.”

Watch Lerato in 13 episodes of Skeem Saam scheduled for broadcast on SABC1 Thursdays at 20h30 from 13 October 2011. Skeem Saam produced by PEU Communication Solutions for SABC Education is a drama about how a boy knows when he has become a man. Three teenage boys grapple with tough conflicts as they navigate their journey to manhood in a Limpopo township. A hit and run accident throws 16-year-old Tbose Maputla and his friend Kwaito Seakamela into incredibly challenging situations, testing their friendship to the limit.

The series begins on the day of Thabo ‘Tbose’ Maputla's 16th birthday. A day Zamokuhle ‘Kwaito’ Seakamela discovers he’s won a trip to London. It is also the day Katlego ‘Kat’ Petersen attempts a tiny rebellion. The boys are young and happening, fun and unpredictable. Their massive craving to be men is the engine that drives their behaviour. Tbose's parents throw him a small 16th birthday party at home, but his friends have other celebration plans. When the festivities are over and the Limpopo light of day dawns over Turfloop Township, a horrific discovery is made: an upstanding member of the community, Ben Kunutu, has been killed in a hit and run accident.

A wave of shock reverberates through the community. Slowly the safe, unique and harmonious township of Turfloop splits itself into numerous fragments of suspicion, mistrust and secrecy. The police find themselves investigating more than just a hit and run accident. They are drawn into the trail of a syndicate that operates on the roadsides. Someone in Turfloop knows exactly what happened to Ben Kunutu and they are doing everything they can to hide it.
