ANCWL intensifies campaign for safe return of Nigerian girls

The African National Congress Women's League's (ANCWL) campaign for the safe return of the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls continued in Pretoria on Monday night.

The group of over 200 girls was kidnapped by Nigerian terrorist group, Boko Haram, six weeks ago.

The Women's League has again urged South Africans to sign a petition on its website calling for their release. Petitions will also be distributed at schools, government departments and companies.

The League has also called upon all people to join a mass prayer in their various churches, stadiums and other venues.

ANCWL president Angie Motshekga says the Women's League has been in talks with various South African organisations, and is looking at sending a delegation soon in solidarity with the people of Nigeria.

On Monday, President Jacob Zuma expressed concern about the kidnapped schoolgirls.

"The government and the people of South Africa condemn in the strongest terms the abduction of school children in the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the armed group Boko Haram and calls on the kidnappers to release the children without further delay," Zuma said in a statement.
