Black History Month on Shift, SABC1 Monday 10 February 2014 11h00 to 12h00

Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month in America, is an annual observance in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

Black History Month is not just an American idea; South Africa also celebrates it in the month of February.

This month eBukhosini Solutions in collaboration with Ola Deh and various community partners embark on a BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPEAKING TOUR targeting youth and students in ten communities and university campuses in Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga provinces. The workshops present a thought provoking response to the question ‘Why should I be proud of Africa?’ Answers reveal hidden and unknown facts about our continent, which is often surrounded by ignorance and shame.
On this day we share, reflect and celebrate positive black contributions and promote knowledge of Black history, culture and heritage.

Our questions to you are:
·         Are you aware of Black History Month (BHM) as a celebratory month and its cause?
·         Who are your top black individuals or icons in black history – Africa and worldwide?
·         Why is it important to know important events in Black History worldwide?
·         What connects all black people in the world beyond our likeness and skin colour?
Poll Question:
Is recognising black history month racist or not?
Answer Racist or Not Racist to …
