South Africa is a world-renowned country
that has produced world famous people and stories. The TOMz team set
to take on a mission of learning how South Africans, past and present, have
contributed to putting South Africa on the international map.
When thinking of a South African Hall of
Fame, names such as Zakes Mokae, Athol Fugard, Dr Chris Barnard and Nadine
Gordimer come to mind. Learn about whom these people are, how they inspired
change and what they have done to earn their stars in the Mzansi Hall of fame.
Gavin Hood, through his Oscar award
winning film Tsotsi, managed to take a proudly South African story by Athol
Fugard and give it to an international audience. Presley Chweneyagae and Zola,
who both star in the film, talk not only about what starring the film has done
for them in their own lives but also what it has done for South Africa as a
whole.
The story of the journey that the father
of the nation, Nelson Mandela, embarked on to make South Africa the democratic
country that it is today has been made into a film by the South African film
producer Anant Singh. The movie Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom promises to
be the most authentic film based on the life of this great man. Lindiwe
Matshikiza, who stars in the film, talks about the responsibility that the film
and the citizens have in telling the world the world their own story.
Celebrate a legendary hero, the father the
nation, a man who ushered in the democratic South Africa we live in today, the
late great Mr Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela. We take the time to say rest in peace
Tata and thank you for the contribution you have made for the people of the
nation, you will never be forgotten.
Lastly commemorate the hero of the week
who has South Africa’s main airport named after him and who started the ANC and
who’s the father of famous People of the South presenter. Find out on TOMz
on Monday 4pm only on SABC 1 Mzanzi Fo’ Sho’.
