LEARN TO MAKE YOUR OWN JEWELRY, BELTS AND OTHER ITEMS
Let’s discover how different cultures used to decorate themselves with clothing, jewelry and other accessories. Create and decorate your own jewelry and accessories with beads and various other materials at hand...head to toe personal adornment.
The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum, situated at 1 Park Drive, Port Elizabeth, will host a number of workshops in December and January to show interested children how to use beads and other material to make headpieces, bracelets, belts, necklaces, purses and anklets amongst others.
These colourful workshops will be
linked to a current exhibition detailing the beadwork of the Mfengu people who
used beads to communicate different messages about who they were.
The youngsters will be able to take
small personal objects to decorate like cell phone pouches, head bands, belts,
etc.
The workshop dates are:
Monday,
9 December 2013: Age 7- 9 yrs
Wednesday,
11 December 2013: Age 10 – 12 yrs
Thursday,
12 December 2013: Age 13 – 15 yrs
Wednesday,
8 January 2014: Age 7 – 10 yrs
Thursday,
9 January 2014: Age 11 – 15 yrs
Please note:
- Each workshop costs R 30.00 inclusive of art material and equipment.
- The workshop starts at 09h00 and will finish at 12h00.
- Please provide own lunch.
- Bookings are essential as space is offered on first come first serve criteria.
