The Golden Years: Chris Wessels

The Golden Years: Chris Wessels growing majestic valley
Chris Wessels is a Moravian Reverend who was born in Genadendal, a valley nestled at least 90 minutes out of Cape Town in the Riviersonderend Mountains. Genadendal means Valley of Grace and through this episode, we learn about the place and how Chris experienced growing up in this majestic valley. He describes Genadendal as a paradise for children to grow up in and against the backdrop of his grandson's activities, Chris is able to depict the freedom he had as a child.

In the second segment of this episode, we learn about Chris's early days as a young pastor and how this so called farm boy met his wife, a city girl named Nabs, as he would call her. Both Chris and Nabs were detained under the apartheid regime and his time in detention gives us a bit of insight as to what a man who has always stood for justice and freedom, was forced to endure during that time.

Cows, lemonade, love and faith are just a few things to watch out for in this episode with Reverend Chris Wessels. For further details, a-mail us at thegoldenyears@sabc.co.za.
