The
population size of South Africa has increased to 51.7 million in 2011
from 40.5 million in 1996 - a growth of 11 million people over the past
16 years. The results of the 2011 population and housing census have
been announced in Pretoria. Statician-General Pali Lehotla presented the
findings to President Jacob Zuma, who officially released them. There's
been a notable increase in Gauteng's share of the total population,
from 18% in 1996 to 23.7% in 2011. Read more...
