In the past it was more likely for persons of the same race to be in a
relationship; now interracial relationships are growing significantly.
Integrating different cultures and nationalities is likely to do away
with the seeds of hate, racism and prejudice.  Interracial relationships
provide the unique opportunity to learn, experience and appreciate
different cultures and backgrounds.
As in any relationship when two people from different backgrounds
come together, there will be challenges and communication barriers.  How
do people in interracial relationships make it work and how do they
overcome challenges they face amongst their families, friends and
colleagues.
Why do some individuals stare and make comments when they see a mixed
race couple? On Monday 5 November Shift talks about interracial
relationships and marriages. We hope to find out about the stereotypes
and how people in these relationships make it work, what challenges they
face and what their hope is for the future in society when it comes to
interracial relationships.
Our studio guests are Mmusi Maimane, spokesperson of the DA.  Mr
Maimane is married to a white women; he is always asked why he decided
to marry outside his race.  He will answer that question on the show.
Charlene Mapukata a coloured woman married to a Zulu man tells us how
they are making their relationship work with their two children.  Our
other guests also share amazing stories.

become an understanding country when it comes to interracial
relationships or is there still a lot that needs to be done?
