In South Africa the unemployment rate is extremely high currently estimated to be 25, 2% (2010), comprising approximately 4, 2 million people. The problem applies to all age groups but affects youth more than others. In 2010 the unemployment rate for the 20-24 age group was 48, 7% and for the 15-19 age group 63, 7% amounting to 1.37 million unemployed amongst 15-24 year olds.
Our government has recognised this phenomenon for decades and continues to roll out programmes that address the distressing reality of youth unemployment.
Watch SHIFT on Tuesday 26 June on @ 13h30 for information of learnerships, entrepreneurship support programs and social development projects to address the challenges of our youth in our country.
