Phumi Mashigo Presenter of Ratanang, The Parenting Club

Phumi Mashigo is a South African television and film producer, presenter and entrepreneur. She is the host of Ratanang, The Parenting Club starting on SABC2 Fridays at 10h50 from 20th May 2011. Ratanang, The Parenting Club is a platform for parents and children to interact and deal with issues instead of sweeping them under the carpet.

Phumi is level-headed, charming and sometimes feisty. In Ratanang, The Parenting Club Phumi, a team of friends, experts and a professional equipped with the right tools visit schools, homes and places of employment to help someone who has been in your situation and overcome it. She says “Ratanang is derived from a Sotho word meaning ‘to Love each other’, the show is people-centred, solutions-focused and research-based. Parents share stories and find solutions to their situations, educating themselves and others on how to be better parents.”

Born in Soweto, Phumi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Motion Picture studies at the South African School of Film, TV and Dramatic Art. She is founder and managing director of Blender, a Johannesburg-based commercials company. Her first job after film school was a production manager at Logos Productions, making kwaito music videos. From 2002 to 2004 she worked for top commercials company Network BBDO, before launching her own business. She is passionate about African arts and culture and particularly the role they play within our society. She is married and has a son. In 2008 Phumi was a finalist in the Mrs South Africa pageant.
