Are Real Men Made Or Born?

Meet Kwaito, Tbose and Katlego; three boys, born in 1995 who are in a curious, experimental, questioning time of life. The boys grapple with tough conflicts and challenges as they navigate their journey to manhood in a Limpopo township.

Kwaito is tough, confident and will go to extraordinary lengths to protect his future. He is curious about life and dreams of becoming a lawyer. He speaks Sepedi, isiZulu and English. His journey to manhood is a risky one; he gets involved in a hit-and-run accident and faces an uncertain future with an absent father.

Tbose is a highly protected boy who makes a life-changing mistake on his 16th birthday. He is gorgeous, self-assured and wants to try everything in life. He speaks Sepedi. His journey to manhood is also a risky one; he steals his father’s 4x4, drives under the influence of alcohol and engages in teenage sex.

Katlego is kind-hearted, comfortable in his own skin and doesn’t let his gender limit him in any way. He is laid-back, handsome and emotional. He is supportive and a shoulder to cry on. He will go a long way to help a friend. His journey to manhood is a safe one. While investigating his missing dog he is devastated to discover the dog is dead.
