Education a birth right: Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says his party in working on a legislation to outlaw academic exclusions due to financial constraints.
Malema's described this as part of unjust tendencies by tertiary institutions which he accuses of having turned education into a commodity.
Malema was speaking during a campaign trail at Vaal University of Technology on Tuesday night.

He says education is a birth right.

"It cannot be a pre-requisite to pay money before you get education. It must be illegal because you are denying people the right to accumulate knowledge, subjecting them to permanent slavery because it is through knowledge that people will liberate themselves."

Malema also lashed out at the relationship between student body South African Students Congress (Sasco) and the ANC, saying it has compromised the genuine demands of the students.

He says students continue to be excluded academically and learning conditions continue to deteriorate under Sasco which has historically dominated student politics for years.

Malema told hundreds of learners that the ruling party funds Sasco activities such as conferences and this has made it difficult for the organization to confront the ruling party on challenges faced by students.
