Industrial Engineering on iSpani

SABC1 Wednesday 26 September @ 13h30
Industrial engineers, technologists and technicians seek out and study the most effective way to bring together the basic elements of production; people, machines, materials, information and energy to make a product or provide a service.

They are the bridge that links a company’s management goals such as cost efficiency and optimal production to its operational performance.
To do this they look at ways of increasing productivity through the management of people, methods of business organisation and technology making industrial engineers different from other engineering disciplines because people and not only processes lie at the heart of what they do.

The industrial engineer determines a company’s human resource and skills requirements as well as how to operate in top gear to create employment, economic sustainability and wealth.
The day to day tasks of an industrial engineer varies considerably depending on the sector they work in, they are not only found in manufacturing, although that’s where many specialize; they are also an integral part of the service industries where they provide more efficient and profitable practices like they do in manufacturing.

iSpani is a reality documentary that takes viewers into the world of work. Each week an aspiring careerist is exposed, in detail, to the inner workings of a specific career starting at the very bottom.  They are taken on a process of orientation and practical job shadowing, introduced to and supported by potential employers. In addition to performing specific tasks that build the foundation of a competent employee, iSpani candidates are coached by on-the-ground experts in the field, who share their experiences in developing their own careers with the candidates.
