Teenagers on a Mission (TOMZ) returns to SABC1.
4 May 2012

TOMZ is back on SABC 1 on Mondays at 17h00.  The science and technology programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology takes young people on a journey to learn more about the world of science and technology.  Series three introduces the new cyber space segment that looks at technology behind applications and how people can use their smart phones to empower themselves rather than making and receiving calls.

Two presenters Dee and Malope share a studio and they visit different places and share innovations in South Africa by young people. The programme encourages young people to be creative and innovative, simplifies and demystifies science and technology by promoting that science is everywhere.

The show highlights science and technology in areas of bugs and science, square kilometre array, National science week, Women in Science, Germany – SA Year of Science , climate change, Nanotechnology, Joule Electric car, Meraka institute and other exciting topics. Young scientists in the making showcase their latest scientific and technological innovations.

A new segment looking at indigenous science is introduced; the segment looks at how people used science in the past and how it helped them.  For the next 39 episodes Dee and Malope explore the mysteries in science.  Malope cooks bugs to share the importance of insects and bugs in human health.  A world of information and interviews from scientists and specialists is synergized with questions, opinions and insights of our youth - all seamlessly brought together with animations, sound and music to ensure every moment is as exciting and entertaining as it is informative and beneficial.

TOMZ brings the latest technological gadgets, science and technology innovations to screens every Monday on SABC1 from 17h00 to 17h30.  You can also visit www.sabceducation.co.za  or www.tomz.co.za to learn more about the programme.
